Kai Charles is a literary journalist whose work focuses on the human detail of injustice. Working across multiple mediums, they draw from over a decade of work in activism to document the stories that lie at the heart of systemic violence.
Their work has previously touched on disability justice, transphobia, sexual violence, border justice, and the climate movement.
After graduating with a first-class honours from the University of Bristol, Kai has worked as a media co-ordinator and content creator for campaigns on environmental justice and trans rights. A resident at Pervasive Media Studios their long form work has touched on topics that range from political art to disability justice.

‘Focus, but Where?’ is a hidden object game that explores the equally symbiotic and destructive relationship between climate activism and social media. Kai Charles was research and writing lead on the project.
Bones Fused Wrong
Bones Fused Wrong is a zine, available digitally and in print, produce for the Bristol Institute of Learning and Teaching. It combines art, poetry, and a series of interviews conducted with disabled, working class students.
Erased at Interview
Erased at Interview investigated the potential for testimonial violence at the LGBTI asylum interview. The project identified a number of areas in which testimonial violence manifested during the interview, in particular how asylum seekers were forced to amend their narratives to fit a euro-centric image of what it means to be a queer aslyum seekers.
